In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The nurse must be able to educate patients, families/caregivers in the home setting, lifting, moving, and/or transferring of patients and use equipment to provide patient care which usually involves lifting and/or pushing the equipment. The RN is responsible for the storage, proper cleaning techniques, and use of reusable medical equipment (RME). He/she must be able to locate the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all RME in the clinical area. She/he is responsible for carrying out proper procedures for caring for patients in an isolation environment by following proper infection control procedures. She/he communicates regularly with the HBPC Program Coordinator and interdisciplinary HBPC team, home health agencies, and multiple disciplines of the VA hospital.
