·Responsible for managing all personnel on nursing unit(s).
oConducts interviews and hires best qualified candidate to fill vacancies.Candidates can be new employees or transfers within the facilities.
oFollows all hiring policies and collaborates with, Human Resources and education to facilitate hiring and orientation.
oMaintains high levels of employee engagement and job performance by providing recognition and opportunities for learning.
oPerforms annual employee appraisals on all unit staff.
§Ensures that staff clearly understands expectations.
§Identifies needed areas of improvement throughout year.
oCoaches/counsels/disciplines employees when appropriate in a professional, objective and timely manner.
§Identifies problems, investigates incidents & failure to comply with Policy & Procedures.
§Collaborates with Director to determine disciplinary action and action plans for improvement.
oKeeps anecdotal notes on staff.

oDevelops unit schedule within budgetary limitations, while balancing staff to provide safe and effective levels of care and distributes at least 10 days before start date.
oIdentifies and implements creative staffing to meet need of unit within productivity limits.
oCollaborates with peers and staff coordinator regarding distribution of personnel throughout nursing departments.
oMakes rounds to assess nursing skill mix and assignments in relation to patient acuity and care needs.
·Maintains productivity level.
oArticulates concept of nursing hours per patient day and approved targets.
oExplains/justifies variances in HPPD based on unit variables.
oMaximizes productivity and quality of patient care within established target hours.
oIf applicable, utilizes acuity system to provide appropriate nursing care hours.
oDevelops teamwork within staff.
oSupports networking and cooperation with other units and departments to provide quality care for patients.
·Ensure that Quality Patient Care is provided on units.
oMaintains knowledge of scope of practice of all staff as defined by State Board of Nursing and hospital Policy & Procedure.
oAssures patient care assignments are made according to competency and acuity.
oComplies with all regulatory agency requirements.
oEnsures staff procedures within the scope of practice as applicable to the ages of the patients served on unit.
oMakes patient rounds on routine basis to assess, problem solve, and provide customer service.
oAssures adherence to policies and procedures regarding delivery of patient care is complete.
oEnsures complete documentation of assessment, intervention and evaluation of patient care.
oEnsures staff is competent to care for patients on unit.
oMonitors nursing care on off shifts on a regular basis.
·Prepares, analyzes, reviews and monitors operational and capital budgets for assigned unit(s).
oDevelops budget in collaboration with director.
oMonitors budget on an ongoing basis and completes monthly budget variance analysis within established timeframe.
oVerifies accuracy of monthly budget reports.
oAdjusts spending/expenses to fall within budgetary allowances.
oEnsures cost containment of resources.
·Coordinates and promotes Performance Improvement plan in unit.
oDocuments problems, action plans and evaluations.
oPromotes staff understanding, support and participation in PI activities.
oParticipates in hospital wide PI projects and completes assignments within established time frames.
·Promotes Balanced Scorecard.
oShares information with staff.
oStrives to achieve all goals within estimated timeframe.
oPost monthly updates for staff.
oDiscuss in staff meetings.
oComplies/Supports BSC established by Director and Administration.
·Promotes customer satisfaction within unit.
oAssesses needs for improvement and develops action plan.
oAddresses patient complaints in a timely manner.
oCollaborates with Patient Relations Coordinator as needed.
oEvaluates progress and readjusts plan on an ongoing basis.
·Communicates effectively with staff.
oHolds monthly staff meetings for all shifts of unit staff.Communicates information about unit, nursing department and hospital.
oInitializes various routes of communication to communicate effectively with staff.
oCommunicates necessary patient information to Director of Nursing and Risk Management that may have significant impact on nursing department and hospital.
·Represents the Philosophy of Nursing and Administration.
oMeets daily with staff, patients and physicians to identify problems, problem solve and provide support.
oPresents professionally, exhibiting SHARE behaviors and positive attitude at all times.
oPromotes effective working relationships with other nursing and ancillary departments.
oActively participates in assigned committees.
oParticipates in recruitment and retention activities.
oCollaborates with other nurse manages to provide coverage.
·Participates in ongoing educational activities for Specialty area as well as management seminars.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
·Demonstrates proficient use of English language in verbal and written form.
·Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
·Knowledge of regulatory agency requirements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
·Three (3) years of nursing experience required.
·One (1) year minimum supervisory experience with demonstrated leadership and management ability preferred.
·Must obtain bachelor’s degree in nursing, business or healthcare related field within three (3) years of hire
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
·Bachelor’s degree in nursing, business, or healthcare related field
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
·Current Florida RN license required.
·Current BLS certification.
