Summary:
The Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute (RDCRI) is seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Scientist to join our esteemed research institute dedicated to the exploration of childhood cancers and/or blood disorders. This Research Scientist position will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of these complex diseases and contribute to the development of innovative diagnostic tools and treatment strategies. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside a multidisciplinary team of scientists, clinicians, and industry partners, with the goal of improving patient outcomes and transforming the field of childhood cancer or hematologic conditions. The position is equivalent in rank to an academic Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, depending on experience. The applicant serves as a researcher, educator, and administrator within research, clinical and educational programs supported by the Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute (RDCRI), the Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders, and Akron Children's Hospital (ACH).
Responsibilities:
* Conduct Research: Design, plan, and execute independent research projects focused on childhood cancer or hematologic conditions. This includes performing experiments, analyzing data, and interpreting results using various scientific methodologies and techniques.
* Literature Review: Stay up to date with the latest advancements in the field of childhood hematology-oncology, and related disciplines. Conduct literature reviews to identify knowledge gaps and potential research avenues.
* Experimental Design: Develop experimental protocols and methodologies to investigate the underlying mechanisms, pathology, and treatment options childhood hematological or oncological conditions. Optimize experimental procedures and troubleshoot technical challenges as needed.
* Data Analysis and Interpretation: Perform statistical analysis and data interpretation using appropriate software and tools. Draw meaningful conclusions from experimental results and present findings in a clear and concise manner.
* Collaboration and Teamwork: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of scientists, clinicians, and industry partners to foster a synergistic research environment. Contribute to team discussions, provide scientific insights, and actively participate in scientific meetings and conferences.
* Publication and Grant Writing: Prepare scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Contribute to grant writing efforts to secure external funding for research projects and initiatives.
* Laboratory Management: Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and inventories. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain accurate records of experimental procedures and results.
* Mentoring and Training: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior researchers including fellows, residents, students, research assistants as well as more senior collaborators, both inside ACH and with our academic partners. Foster a positive learning environment and assist in their professional development. The scientist will also work with providers and fellows in developing research questions and guide them through the process from ideation through dissemination to. The scientist will communicate with finance and post award project coordinator for budget updates, changes, and plans and monitors expenditures.
* The scientist organizes and runs research meetings with the linked clinical faculty on a regular basis and will be expected to have an adjunct faculty appointment at one of our collaborating regional academic institutions.

Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Hematology, Oncology, Molecular Biology, or other related fields.
- Strong background and research experience in oncology, hematology or related fields
- Proficiency in various laboratory techniques and experimental methodologies used in said research.
- Demonstrated expertise in data analysis, statistical tools, and scientific software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively present research findings and prepare scientific manuscripts.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented research environment.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in grant writing and securing research funding is desirable.
- A track record of publications in high-impact scientific journals is preferred.
