In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing; clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations, operative/invasive procedures, or home settings. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who" are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. The registered nurse interprets the philosophy and goals of nursing service to others in the work setting; functions within established guidelines and demonstrates the ability to work effectively and develop therapeutic relationships with patients, their families, and other professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care. The registered nurse delivers fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned patients while developing technical competencies. The registered nurse works closely with a preceptor with a goal of developing skills and judgment to utilize the nursing process in real situations. Graduates will train with a preceptor in all four inpatient units; Emergency Department, Intensive Care, Medical Surgical, and Community Living Center. They will complete rotations in each department before being placed in a permanent position within a specific unit. Each department is a fast-paced area that provides care for patients with multiple, complex co-morbidities, both surgical and medical. Each area requires excellent assessment skills and critical thinking ability. Must be able to adapt to rapidly changing conditions of patients and communicate effectively with other healthcare providers. The Registered Nurse in the Transition-to-Practice program reports to the Nurse Manager for the unit they are assigned. The Emergency Room consists of 9 ER beds and 2 Fast Track beds, along with 2 Triage rooms. The unit is open 24 hours a day/7 days a week. The Medical/Surgical unit consists of a smaller 10 bed telemetry unit and a 19 bed Medical Surgical unit. The unit is open 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) consist of a12 bed ICU. The unit is open 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. The Community Living Center (CLC) consists of 15 beds and is a fast-paced area that provides care for patients with multiple co-morbidities and varying care plans. Veterans in the CLC may have care plans that reflect long-term, rehabilitation of skilled nursing care, or end-of-life needs. The unit is open 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. Fully licensed registered nurses will be offered a permanent appointment. Nurse Graduates pending licensure will be offered a temporary appointment not to exceed one year, pending boarding and license. You will have that one year to become licensed. Once licensed, you will be converted to a permanent appointment. The position is eligible for full benefits. Salary: Nurse I: $61,103 - $81,266 The above salary is for Nurse 1 grade levels. Since new graduates do not have extensive experience yet, you would be hired as a Nurse 1. However, keep in mind that after your transition to practice program is completed, you will have the opportunity for a regular staff position where you have promotion potential up to a Nurse 3, with a pay range that currently reaches $113,141.
