Central Ohio VA Health Care System is seeking an Registered Nurse Float for Primary Care. Duty location is the Chalmers P. Wylie VA ACC. The PC RN Care Manager is a member of Primary Care whose role is to function as a team member, supporting and coordinating the nursing care to a panel of patients. S/he works in partnership with the assigned Primary Care Provider and panel of patients for effective disease and chronic care management. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Case Management experience with large patient volumes. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Physical Requirements: This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, and sitting. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing. S/he may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. S/he must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, an d able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Applicants must possess the mental and physical ability to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment. Physical requirements may involve lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, and repeated bending. S/he must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as TB screening or testing on hire, as a condition of employment. ["The Primary Care Float RN role also includes providing coverage for the nursing staff in Primary Care (PC) including the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). The duty station is Columbus VA but occasional travel to the CBOCs to provide coverage may be required, along with occasional weekend and/or holiday coverage. The PC Float RN will also assist in areas such as the Vaccine Clinic, OOT box/COVID Screening area, and CBOC lab. Appropriate training and competency assessments will be required and completed for those areas as applicable. The PC RN Care Manager will adhere to all current directives of VHA, and meet current Joint Commission standards, and VA-OIG expectations. The PC RN Care Manager reports directly to the Primary Care Nurse Manager . It is the Primary Care Nurse Manager, or designee, who has direct control over work assignments and leave approval. The PC RN Care Manager is expected to work independently within their scope of practice, according to policies, training, and accepted VA practice The PC RN Care Manager meets the needs of both the internal and external customers while supporting the mission of the VA by consistently communicating and treating customers (Veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff ) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. In addition, s/he provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures and handles conflict and problems constructively and appropriately. The PC RN Care Manager demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. S/he delivers fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical competencies. His/her scope of practice in the state of Ohio is outlined in Section 4723.01(B), ORC which defines the scope of registered nurse practice as: \"Providing to individuals and groups nursing care requiring specialized knowledge, judgment, and skill derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences . Such nursing care includes: Identifying patterns of human responses to actual or potential health problems amenable to a nursing regimen; Executing a nursing regimen through the selection, performance, management, and evaluation of nursing actions; Assessing health status for the purpose of providing nursing care; Providing health counseling and health teaching; Administering medications, treatments, and executing regimens authorized by an individual who is authorized to practice in this state and is acting within the course of the individual's professional practice.
