The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System is seeking "1" Part-time Registered Nurse in Critical Care Nursing Service Service(ICU) - Nights - 24 hours weekly Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required. In partnership with the University of Arizona, we have an active medical and surgical training program. Surgical populations include cardiothoracic, vascular, general surgery, neurological, and others. The ICU provides cardiac support with intra-aortic balloon pumps and Impella assist devices. Preferred candidates should have experience with mechanical ventilation, intravenous vasoactive medications, hemodynamic monitoring/interpretation, cardiac experience with EKG/12 Lead interpretation, and possess critical thinking skills. The Registered Nurses (RN) provide care and a variety of support services. RN's assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate appropriate nursing care while in collaboration with multidisciplinary care team members, provide psychological support to patients and families. Intravenous IV Management: The incumbent identifies the characteristics of medications used for arterial/venous vasoconstriction/dilatation, including pharmacology, dosage, onset, duration, indications, therapeutic effects, toxicity, and their reversal agents. Appropriately intervenes per system memorandum, orders, and department policy. Pain and Sedation: The incumbent identifies the characteristics of medications used for pain and sedative management such as benzodiazepines, opioids, analgesics, and sedatives including pharmacology, dosage, onset, duration, indications, therapeutic effects, toxicity, and their reversal agents. Uses and teaches Veterans on other therapeutic techniques as adjuncts to medication, repositioning, splinting, relaxation, and distraction. Recognizes psychological distress related to post-operative pain, anxiety, or fear. Initiates measurements to relieve distress response in a therapeutic manner to Veteran's behavior.ICU Nurse Duties include but not limited to: Possess knowledge and skill set for management of critically ill Veterans Evaluate the Veteran's condition and current status and develop an individualized plan of care to address the particular needs of the Veteran, including the Veteran and families preferences Develop and support research/improvement projects directed toward improving care delivered in ICU and throughout the facility Deliver care as a charge RN out of ratio as appropriate. Precepts and mentors new staff and students. Collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare team to deliver timely, efficient, and effective care to the Veterans. Assure detailed, current, and comprehensive documentation is contained in the patient medical record and other pertinent records. Completes TMS and Elsevier education modules in a timely manner, before due date. Enters leave requests into VATAS per SAVAHCS Leave and Absence System for Employees Memorandum 09-18-61. Document care appropriately per SAVAHCS System Memorandum Critical and Acute Care Documentation of Patient Care by Nursing Personnel. Maintain current ACLS and BLS certifications per through Resuscitation Readiness Improvement (RQI) - Maintain Environment of Care per SAVAHCS Environment of Care Rounds Memorandum 08-14-19. Precept and mentor new staff and students Cares for Veterans requiring mechanical ventilation and has knowledge regarding advance airways. - Cares for Veterans requiring vasoactive intravenous medications. Cares for the post-surgical cardiac patient and possess knowledge and clinical skills for cardiac assist devices (through annual training).
