Scope of Nurse: The responsibilities of the Registered Nurse (Operating Room) include, but are not limited to the following description: The Registered Nurse (Surgery) reports to the Nurse Manager for Surgery Service with second line reporting to the Chief Nurse for Specialty and Surgical Services. He/she maintains order and cleanliness in the operating room (OR); He/she conducts brief pre-operative assessment confirming compliance with preoperative instructions; He/she ensures instruments are sterile and supplies are clean, available, and functioning and any special equipment or implants are available prior to the surgical procedure; He/she performs proper counts at the beginning and conclusion of all surgical/procedural cases; He/she documents in the VISTA surgical package; He/she performs a proper Time-Out prior to incision including all staff present in the room; He/she performs a debriefing at the end of the procedure verify the procedure, post-op diagnosis, and number/type of specimens with the provider prior to the patient leaving the OR; and He/she protects the surgical field and limits traffic in the OR.
