The Northeast Ohio VA Healthcare System is recruiting for Full-time Registered Nurse (s) (RNs). The Registered Nurse(s) will function in the Spinal Cord Injury Nursing Service. 72/80 hour Baylor plan- Work 72 hours and get paid for 80 hours Work six 12 hour shifts in a two week period A selection may be made at any time during the opening of the announcement. Financial Disclosure Report: Not Required Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree. Physical Requirements: Applicant must possess the ability to do the following: heavy lifting and carrying, 45 pounds and over; pulling, pushing and reaching above the shoulder; potentially long periods of walking, standing, kneeling and repeated bending. ["Inpatient SCI has acute, rehab Veterans and offers preventative care. The registered nurse collaborates with the interdisciplinary team provide care to new and existing spinal cord injury Veterans through rehabilitation and sustaining care. Our system of care is well rounded and collaborative in nature with coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction upon discharge to home or Long Term Care. SCI Long Term Care is a home-like environment where the Veteran stays the duration of his/her life. The registered nurse collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to the Veterans that require a more in-depth clinical care of the spinal cord injury or neurologically impaired condition than what can be supported in the home environment. The nurses and care team strive to respect every Veterans preference and offer individualized care. Many Veterans express a family atmosphere between staff and other residents. The incumbent will provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill and injured veterans. Duties include documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems; and accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade. Core duties for SCI: Providing care to the spinal cord injured, multiple sclerosis (MS) or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) Veteran. Documenting thorough skin assessments, including complex wound dressing changes. Participating in interdisciplinary team meetings. Using bar code medication administration (BCMA) to provide safe medication administration. Assisting patients/residents with activities of daily living (ADLs). Serving as a rotating Charge Nurse of the Spinal Cord Injury Unit. Using and directing others to use equipment safely and appropriately when providing care. Incorporating age, gender, cultural and learning needs of residents and families requiring complex care planning and evaluation. Applying and directing others to apply infection control measures appropriately in delivering care. Identifying and analyzing problems which effect/impede care and initiating their resolution. Participating in coordinating care and collaborating with other disciplines/departments to achieve positive patient care outcomes. Adhering to ethical principles and nursing standards in delivering care. Serving as a resource and guide to Veterans, families and other staff in providing care. Using effective communication skills with individuals and groups to achieve desired outcomes. Performing specialized treatments for residents as appropriate and applying and maintaining appropriate competencies to do so.
