This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Education: Graduate from a Nurse Practitioner master's degree program (or higher) accredited by the National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) which changed to the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN; http://www.acenursing.org or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE; (CCNE; http://www.aacn.nche.edu/) at the time the program was completed. Certification: Full and current national certification as a Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (AACN) or another nationally recognized certifying body as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACCNP). [The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.] License: Current, full, active and unrestricted licensure as a graduate professional Registered Nurse with approval to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia. Graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing programs must be in possession of current, full active and unrestricted licensure, and must meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Preferred Experience: BLS provider card issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network. At least one (1) year of experience as a RN/RNP. Technical knowledge of computer related skills like Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point and other automated data processing techniques. Prescriptive privileges (Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number) to include DEA Licensure: Current DEA number from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration for Schedule II-V controlled substances with demonstration of meeting California State Board of Nursing requirements to prescribe controlled substances. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Physical Requirements: This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, and sitting. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment. In the performance of duties, the incumbent may be required to drive and/or ride in GSA-vehicles. ["The incumbent is a Registered Nurse and Certified RNP in Primary Care, General Medicine, or Family Medicine. The incumbent should possess advanced education, knowledge, clinical skill and experience necessary to provide expert care to primary care patients in an outpatient setting. The incumbent collaborates with PACT teams and other interdisciplinary team members to support the care of our veterans. The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Providing direct care management of primary care patients. Participating in quality improvement projects. Providing administrative support for GMC. Prescribing medications. Managing primary care, acute, and chronic conditions using current scientific knowledge. Setting goals and developing plans mutually acceptance to the patient and RNP. Prescribing a variety of modalities to meet wellness and illness needs (e.g. medication, nutrition, exercise, traditional non-medical treatment). Providing individually based patient education and counseling. Consulting with physicians and other health care professionals, and making referrals as needed. Scheduling appropriate follow-up and additional health care services. Referring patients to other community-based health care providers and agencies for additional services, as necessary. Coordinating and monitoring the outcome of the referral and integrating any recommended treatment in the management plan. Evaluating the process and outcomes of the management plan on an ongoing basis. Providing emergency treatment where a physician is not immediately available. Facilitating patient and family education. Maintaining current knowledge of research literature pertinent to area of patient care. Writing orders specified in scope of practice and in accordance with skill and proficiency. Performing telehealth duties, as needed for patients. Working collaboratively with the patient aligned care teams (PACT), which includes physicians (MDs), registered nurses (RNs), licensed vocational nurses (LVNs), and clerks, as well as other health team members (e.g., specialists, social workers, pharmacists), in the management of these patients. Ensuring that the clinical care of all patients is consistent with existing primary care best practices and performance measures within the practice setting. This care may take place in Same day clinic, Respiratory clinic, General Medical Clinic and may include alert coverage when other providers are on leave or caring for your own panel of patients. Partnering to create, amend, and implement quality improvement projects via dashboard management and working with other stakeholders both within GMC and collaborating with other stake holders across departments as instructed by the Section Chief.
