This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Learn more The Medical/Surgical Staff Nurse is a highly skilled individual who functions within the Medical/Surgical areas of Nursing and Patient Care, and various patient care areas to provide clinical nurse expertise, care, and education to diverse patient populations. The staff nurse will collaborate with other health team members to assure quality care is provided to various Veteran patients. The staff nurse is required to work and support multiple inpatient areas within the medical center as staffing and patient needs acutely arise. The Community Living Center/Hospice Care Nurse must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs, providing care as needed as described in policies and procedures. The registered nurse is recognized by other disciplines for sound managerial skills. Able to evaluate the performance of other nursing personnel and is capable of relieving the Nurse Manager during his/her absence. Ability to function in the role of a Charge Nurse. He/she has the ability to bring these problems to resolution. Through his/her well-developed clinical experience, is able to anticipate and implement preventive patient care measures. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to adult and geriatric patients in the long-term care and hospice/palliative care environment. The CLC/HCN must hold a current, unrestricted and active state licensure. This person possesses specific knowledge who offers individualized assistance to patients, family and caregivers to help overcome healthcare system barriers. Using the nursing process, this person provides education and resources to facilitate informed decision making and timely access to quality healthcare through all phases of the surgical continuum.
