You Will Be Responsible For:
Demonstrates effective assessment skills to ensure quality patient care is provided.
Performs and documents accurate initial assessment per unit standard which may include: initial observation, obtaining and interpreting information in terms of the patients’ needs and safety. Reports appropriate information in a timely manner to responsible physician.
Utilizes clinical data to implement appropriate interventions.
Uses critical-thinking skills when analyzing basic and advanced cardiac rhythms in a safe, competent and independent manner.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of the anatomy and physiology and disorders of the dermal system.
Possesses a thorough knowledge of pressures ulcers staging and classifications of chronic wounds.
Performs non-invasive vascular assessment including use of a Doppler
Verbalizes understanding and demonstrates appropriate clinical judgment in selection of various classifications of wound products.
Establishes appropriate implementation of nursing actions to ensure competent nursing care is delivered.
Documents patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR) in Wound Expert and Cerner that includes observation, care/treatment administered, patient's response, results of diagnostic tests and all pertinent communication relative to the plan of care.
Reports appropriate information in a timely manner to responsible physician and obtain appropriate intervention.
Documents on all hospital approved forms and in Wound Expert as per unit and hospital standards.
Maintains a professional rapport with physicians, patients, and families. Utilizes communication skills appropriate to age-specific needs.
Provides competent and compassionate care to the patient with pain according to policy.
Maintains a safe patient care environment.
Administers medications as ordered: PO, SQ, IV, IV PUSH, IVPB, IM, SL, PR, topical, and intradermal accurately and appropriately. Knowledgeable of clinical implications of department topical drug administration specific to wound care.
Responds and participates in unit code situations. Utilizes knowledge and experience to treat the patient according to the standards of BLS and ACLS protocols.
Verifies and signs off physician orders on all assigned patients.
Demonstrates ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient's response to treatment and evaluate overall plan for effectiveness and achieving an optimal outcome.
Assists the physician with treatment procedures and performs therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician.
Provides assessment, formulates a teaching plan and provides and evaluates appropriate patient/family education.
Operates the Hyperbaric Chamber and supervises the patient throughout the hyperbaric treatment.
Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Demonstrates accurate documentation and monitoring of activities as needed. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department.
Communicates timely and accurate physician directions to patient via telephone call as directed.
Provides follow-up to patient/family by telephone as requested/needed.
Provides communication/information to outside health care providers needed to establish/maintain continuum of care for the patient.
Consults and coordinates care with other healthcare professionals/departments as needed to comprehensively meet patient/family needs.
Follows CDC isolation guidelines, demonstrates appropriate use of PPE, performs hand washing according to policy and enforces safety regulations.
Uses communication skills appropriate to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients; identifying patient knowledge deficits and contributing to education.
Continuous contact with department coworkers, patients, family, visitors and physicians. Consistently develops, coordinates and evaluates learning experiences provided by the department. Daily contact with other health care agencies establishing and providing continuum of care for the patients. Contact requires a high degree of diplomacy and tact. Assists in the training and evaluation of new staff in the department.
Continuous contact with department coworkers, patients, family, physicians, nursing staff, other department staff, and visitors. Frequent contact with other health care providers within the community and general public. Regularly assists and acts as a resource person. Able to handle high level of stress satisfactorily and be congenial with other employees and customers at all times.
Responsible for legal compliance of interactions within department and on all nursing units of multiple hospitals. Continuously exposed to confidential hospital and patient information. Responsible for adherence to AHS Corporate Compliance, TJC standards, Federal HIPPA regulations and Patient's Bill of Rights.
Current Florida RN licensure or LPN licensure with wound care certification.
Basic Life Support (BLS)
The Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Staff RN demonstrates a specific knowledge base and clinical expertise in chronic wound care. Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care of chronic wounds. Provides direct and indirect patient care. Acts as a resource person for physician, nursing staff, other health care professionals and agencies in the community.
