The Erie VAMC Lead Physician Assistant is a senior member of the PA staff with proven clinical expertise, a thorough understanding of the various functions involved in the care of patients, and the ability to interact effectively with different medical and surgical specialists, health care team members, and administrative staff. The Lead PA duties are collateral duties, while the candidate remains a clinical staff member. The Lead PA may be employed in any service within the Erie VAMC. Major duties and responsibilities of the Lead Physician Assistant include but are not limited to: ADMINISTRATIVE: Provides subject matter knowledge and expertise on issues pertaining to the employment, credentialing, clinical practice, and appropriate utilization of PA's to senior management and staff Provides clinical and occupationally focused orientation to new PA appointees and mentors other PA staff members Facilitates the performance of PAs' FPPE and OPPE, and monitors PA performance Identifies PA's educational needs and facilitates availability of necessary training Works closely with the Chief of Staff and the various Service Chiefs to ensure that collaborating Physicians are appropriately appointed and oriented to the role of the Physician in PA practice and to ensure appropriate PA utilization Collaborates with the Chief, Human Resources Management Service or designees to enhance PA recruitment and retention efforts Works closely with Local PA Committees and the Director of Physician Assistant Services (PAS), Office of Patient Care Services, Veterans Health Administration to assist in the collection and reporting of metrics to monitor the effectiveness of PA utilization and quality outcomes and to identify additional areas where utilization of PA's would bring enhanced value to the organization CLINICAL: Has a working knowledge of applicable external accreditation and regulatory requirements pertaining to PA practice Has a working knowledge of the facility management structure and healthcare delivery system Has experience in working with multiple facility management levels and clinical services Has a working knowledge of all VA and VHA Handbooks, Directives, and publications that pertain to Title 38 Physician Assistants (e.g. appointment, promotion, clinical practice, etc.) Has a broad knowledge of the policies and regulations affecting Physician Assistants and their practice INTERPERSONAL & COMMUNICATION: Effectively communicates and interacts with employees, supervisors, management officials, medical staff, and any other facility staff in a professional manner Advocates for PA issues pertaining to the employment, credentialing, clinical practice, and appropriate utilization of PA's to senior management and staff through effective written and verbal communication Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized Financial Discloser Report: Not required
