This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Apply all aspects of the rehabilitation process and patient-focused care management principles within a holistic and collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting and demonstrate exceptional patient care through utilization of evidence-based practice and human caring science. SCI RN's are a interdisciplinary team with on-site collaboration between medicine, nursing, therapies, and ancillary staff. SCI includes paraplegic through quadriplegic Veterans from trauma or disorders, such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS) or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). We focus on modern technology to improve the lives of SCI/D Veterans, providing slower paced care that allows nurses to spend time with patients and families. Patients on this unit may require Central/PICC IV lines, and bowel/bladder and wound care. Nursing experience encompasses quadriplegic, paraplegic, ALS and MS patients requiring medical/surgical quality care. The Tampa VA utilizes modern technology to provide a full range of patient care services. Our 100-bed SCI medical and surgical facility consists of five floors to include a ventilator unit and two long term care units. Duties: As a Staff Nurse you will provide medical and/or surgical care to acute and chronically ill spinal cord injury Veterans. Duties include but are not limited to: documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems. Care of the SCI patients includes related requirements such as rapid response to autonomic dysreflexia, bowel care and use of varied lift equipment. Our facility is seeking individuals who possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work, a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team. Charge nurse duties are encouraged and expected of all registered nurses.
