This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Learn more The majority of your time in this position is spent as a Specialty Clinic RN Educator. When not actively performing these duties, you will take on the responsibilities of a Staff Registered Nurse, assisting within the Medical Service Line as needed. Specialty Educator (60%): *The Specialty Clinic RN Educator is responsible for nursing orientation at the unit level and includes developing an orientation plan, initial job competencies, annual competencies, skill certification, clinical skills, and staff development. *Performs assessment of staff learning needs and is responsible of ensuring staff receives adequate orientation and staff development activities to facilitate compliance with patient care standards. *Accountable for clinical teaching and acts as a clinical consultant & resource to Specialty staff. *Provides educational materials to specialty RN staff whose responsibilities are developing and providing education to patients and family on equipment, RME, RQI, or cross training within Specialty and continuing education. *Demonstrate leadership through developing and coordinating programs to improve quality of care and organizational processes. *Coordinate activities related to clinical experiences for nursing students as assigned. *Leads and participates in the implementation of emergency preparedness plans, procedures, and training. *Triage consults and patients as needed and monitors outstanding consults and direct support staff on proper resolution. *Collaborates with service line leaders to optimize clinic utilization and clinic flow as well as communicates and provides care coordination with internal services and community partners while ensuring all the patient's needs are addressed appropriately. *Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team for optimal patient outcome and provides coverage to all clinics within service line. *Utilizes technology to assist with patient care such as telehealth / telemedicine; follows Bar Code Medication Policy (BCMP) guidelines at all times, and effectively manage patients and programs within service line according to National Directives and Medical Center Policies. *Assumes a leadership role in Nurse Staff Meetings and Section meetings and attends Specialty Medicine All Staff Meetings and Nursing Huddle. *Collaborates with service line leader and creates a positive work environment which enhances care delivery and professional development. *Assists Nurse Manager with in-unit QM activities to monitor compliance to performance improvement activities and contributes to developing in-service educational activities and unit program-specific competency development based on changes in regulation and action items from formal program reviews. Staff Nurse (40%): *The staff RN's primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community (ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses). *The staff RN provides care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process. *Interprets the philosophy and goals of Nursing Service to others in the work setting, functions within established guidelines, and demonstrates the ability to work effectively and develop therapeutic relationships with patients, their families, and other professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care. *Collaborates with the Nurse Manager to create a positive work environment that enhances care delivery and professional development of clinically competent staff by promoting, demonstrating, and ensuring a culturally diverse workforce in which the values and needs of all individuals are respected. *Responsible and accountable for all nursing elements while providing and supervising direct patient care. *Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care by utilizing new technology such as telehealth and telemedicine and assumes responsibility for the coordination of care throughout the continuum of care as well as patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction. *Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. *Assures appropriate chart documentation reflects the assessment of patient needs, interdisciplinary treatment plans, clinical interventions, and evaluation of patients' responses to treatments. *Follows Bar Code Medication Policy (BCMP) guidelines at all times. *Other duties as assigned.
