Scope of Nurse: The Registered Nurse (Pathway to Excellence Coordinator) reports to the Associate Director for Patient Care Service/Chief Nurse Executive. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following description: Coordinating the development, implementation of the Pathway to Excellence Standards within the organization to build and sustain a culture of Excellence. Pathway to Excellence (PTE) coordinator will work with all levels and staff disciplines to improve staff retention through high job satisfaction. Builds and serves as a resource for those who are responsible for unit practice councils facility-wide. Supports an environment that promotes the high standards that give staff the ability to operate a healthy workplace. Provides consultation and guidance to programs, councils, and committees, ensuring professional practice is solidly grounded in the best available evidence suited for Manchester VAMC. Coordinates and facilitates the activities for the Pathway to Excellence® program. These activities include and are not limited to conducting a gap analysis, identifying strategies to address the gaps, maintaining a timeline for designation and re-designation, coordinating the document and application process to ensure standards are addressed and evaluating readiness for document submission and facilitating activities to ensure PTE® standards are satisfied. Provides leadership, coaching, and mentoring to Direct Care Nurses. These activities include and are not limited to the development of unit-based practice councils, shared governance training, and supporting EBP projects leading to disseminating best practices. Systematically evaluates current practices. Formulates outcomes for groups and organizational processes within PTE strategies and approaches. Proposes revision based on evaluation of outcomes. Acts as an expert consultant in inquiry, PTE implementation, and best practice. Demonstrates knowledge and required safety skills in the area of assignment. Guides staff in the application of the critical thinking process. Collaborates with the nursing leadership and the inter-professional team to evaluate care delivery, documentation, and reporting systems. Incorporates principles of communication and group process in professional and interpersonal relations.
