This position is located within ICU/Stepdown units, Inpatient Care Service, Phoenix VA Healthcare System (PVAHCS), Phoenix, AZ. is a Joint Commission Accredited, complexity level 1a tertiary care facility serving Veterans in Phoenix, Arizona. PVAHCS is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology and research.. Responsibility: The Registered Nurse (RN) in the intensive care unit (ICU) functions as an integral member of the interprofessional team and provides healthcare to maximize the quality of life for veterans with critical medical and surgical needs requiring intensive nursing care. The RN role includes initial and ongoing physical and psychosocial assessment/ reassessment to determine the patients nursing care needs. The RN plays an active role in patient concepts of health care support systems for growth, advocacy, discharge planning and collaboration with other interprofessional team members to optimize wellness and comfort. The RN is responsible for: Responding to critical events and using the nursing process to evaluate the patient's condition and treat the critically ill accordingly. Initiates emergency resuscitative measures according to adult resuscitation protocols. RN is required to be competent, understanding standards of practice for care of all critically ill patients RN requires proficiency in the care of adult patients with critical nursing care requirements including continuous cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring Assists with procedures including in the insertion of invasive lines such as arterial lines, Swan Ganz catheters, and maintenance. RN requires proficiency in hemodynamicHemodynamic monitoring multiple vasoactive drips, mechanical ventilation, EKG rhythm strip interpretation RN requires proficiency in moderate sedation, post-surgical recovery and stabilization Conducts and documents individualized patient assessments/reassessments, plan of care and education, prioritizing the data collection based on the adult or elderly patient's immediate condition or critical needs within timeframe specified by client Phoenix VA Health Care System's (PVAHCS) policies, procedures or protocols. Provides appropriate treatments and therapeutic nursing interventions as established by individualized plan of care in an accurate and timely manner. Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the patient's and family's diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights. Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift. Maintains current competencies in the area to which they are assigned.
