**NOTE: Upon assignment to this position, the incumbent's salary will include two additional steps for assignment to a Head Nurse/Nurse Manager position The Community Living Center (CLC) Nurse Manager (NM) has supervisory authority and assumes accountability for the operational function of the CLC. This includes the authority to accept, amend, or reject the work of employees. Duties include, but not limited to: Directly supervising the CLC nursing staff. Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work. Assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of subordinates. Evaluating the performance of subordinates. Making recommendations for appointments, advancements or reassignments of subordinates. Giving advice, counsel, or instruction to subordinate personnel on work and administrative matters (such as performance and conduct issues). Hearing and resolving complaints of subordinates and referring more serious complaints not resolved to higher level supervisors. Developing opportunities for education, growth, mentorship and role expectations. Participating in policy and procedure formulation and implementation of objectives. Maintaining knowledge of Long-Term Care trends, developments and regulatory standards in the field. Ensuring the appropriate orientation, training and continuing education is provided to subordinate staff. Monitoring quality metrics and facilitating performance improvement activities through risk analysis, assessment of quality of care standards, monitoring the delivery of patient care and nursing practices on the unit and coaching staff appropriately. Recommending and/or taking disciplinary action where appropriate. Following the hiring and selection process for new employees. Identifying developmental and training needs of subordinates and providing or making provision for such development and training. Identifying and implementing performance improvement based on performance/quality measures to include, but not limited to SAIL DATA, AES results, Infection Control, Long Term Care Institute Guidelines, Hand Hygiene, Quality Measures, and Knowledge of regarding Community Living Centers Admission criteria and Standards for VA Community Living Centers (CLC). Maintaining patient and employee safety, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards. Actively developing and managing collaborative partnerships with physicians and other clinicians. Ensuring appropriate staffing for the unit, validating the patient workload and working with other Nurse Managers to identify and share resources as needed. Ensuring that Staffing Methodology is completed in accordance with policies and using the results as a guide for staffing the CLC. Ensuring that deadlines and reports are completed timely along with proficiencies and performance appraisals. Participating on service level committees and task forces to improve nursing practice and patient care. Supporting Shared Governance and encouraging employees to participate in facility councils. Maintaining a partnership with the union and adhering to EEO principles. Work Schedule: Primarily an administrative work week.
