The VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System (VASNHCS) Medical/Surgical RN is a professional nurse who provides leadership and assumes continuous responsibility for the development, implementation, coordination, maintenance and evaluation of the patient prior to admission for scheduled inpatient and outpatient surgical or invasive procedures. This includes the assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of the patient and the delivery of total care to a full range of medical/surgical patients. Duties include, but are not limited to: * Demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge in assessing, planning, implementing, documenting and evaluating the patients. * Maintains confidentiality of all patient information, including electronic, print, and conversations. * Demonstrates professional behavior (i.e. respect, civility, ability to accept constructive criticism), effective communication and interpersonal skills. * Collaborates with physicians, nurse managers, charge nurses, utilization managers, and discharge planners to identify, analyze and resolve care problems. * Promotes patient and personal safety. * Follows infection control and medical center policies, including that of reusable patient equipment. * Provides leadership in identifying and addressing ethical issues that could impact the patient admission and discharge. * Coaches and precepts students and novice nursing staff members. * Initiates/actively participates in interdisciplinary opportunities to improve patient care at the program level. * Initiates/participates in quality improvement activities that result in improved outcomes.
