The VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System (VASNHCS) Intensive Care Unit (ICU) RN is a professional nurse who provides leadership and assumes continuous responsibility for the development, implementation, coordination, maintenance and evaluation of the critically ill patient requiring stabilization and/or resuscitation for a wide variety of illnesses and injuries, including diagnosed or undiagnosed problems of varying complexity. Duties include, but not limited to: * Demonstrates clinical knowledge in assessing, planning, implementing, documenting and evaluating the patients. * Maintains confidentiality of all patient information, including electronic, print, and conversations. * Implements an ongoing educational plan to support own professional development. * Demonstrates professional behavior (i.e. respect, civility, ability to accept constructive criticism), effective communication and interpersonal skills. * Collaborates with physicians, nurse managers, charge nurses, utilization managers, and discharge planners to identify, analyze and resolve care problems. * Supports the facility's EEO/affirmative action programs by executing assigned duties and responsibilities in a professional manner. * Provides leadership in identifying and addressing ethical issues that could impact the patient and staff, to include initiating and participating in ethical consultations. * Works effectively with the patient/family to respect and support their values, preferences, needs and goals. * Functions as a resource to others to incorporate the principles of communication and the team concept. * Applies critical thinking and analytical skills to identify barriers for optimal patient care delivery.
