Recruitment for Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital (JAHVH) which is one of the busiest and most complex in the nation with over 4,000 employees, with several outpatient clinics dispersed over a large geographic region. This specialized independent Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide quality, compassionate care to Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) patient population. The LPN is expected to apply all aspects of the medical/surgical or rehabilitation processes. The LPN is responsible for observing, recording, and reporting changes in the patient's condition, as well as assisting in the development and revision of the patient-driven holistic care plan. The LPN demonstrates active collaboration within an interdisciplinary setting and demonstrate exceptional patient care through utilization of evidence-based practice. This advanced LPN will provide patient care services in the Urodynamics procedural area include prepping the patient for genitourinary procedures, inserting and removing urinary and rectal catheters, phlebotomy if needed and other duties as directed by the M.D, ARNP, or physician's assistant within the scope of their license. The LPN follows procedures for the set-up, proper use, processing and maintenance of reusable medical equipment (RME) based on the manufactures instructions. Completes training before use of RME and demonstrates initial/ongoing competency as applicable to position. The LPN must be able to handle complex tasks with little or no difficulty or supervision, including spinal cord injury issues. The LPN must promptly recognize potentially urgent or emergent patient care situations and seek the assistance of the appropriate provider for intervention. The LPN must have ability and flexibility to function in a clinic and procedural area as the position will require the LPN to meet clinical needs between Urodynamics and the SCI-Out Patient Clinic. In the clinic the LPN will be expected to greet patients, gather data including vital signs and other health factors required for check-in and provide basic clinic services, such as blood draws, ECGs, point of care testing, possess good computer skills as they will be responsible for computerized charting, order placements, and other directly related duties as assigned. The incumbent will demonstrate dependability and loyalty by adherence to policies, procedures, and position requirements; accepts team decisions in a cooperative and positive manner. LPN must demonstrate excellent time management, verbal communication skills and be able to provide health education to patients, families and/or caregivers. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 0730-1600 or 0800-1630 pm. Overtime, including occasional weekend shift and Federal Holidays, may be required as needed to meet the needs of the service.
