The Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center is recruiting for two highly qualified Registered Nurse to be the Nurse Scheduler for Medicine Service. The RN will work with all the members of the Cardiology team, Anesthesia team, Social work, and all other interdisciplinary teams to appropriately schedule and coordinate care for our Veterans. The RN is also knowledgeable in the types of procedures performed in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and EP Lab. The RN utilizes current guidelines and protocols in the coordination of care for the patient. The RN provides patient education on intended procedure to be performed or in relation to preoperative testing needs. The RN works to ensure that patients move efficiently through the preoperative/pre-procedure process and to ensure a smooth transition to the community for the intended structural heart surgery. The RN demonstrates strong professional and collaborative relationships with community providers in management of this population. The RN provides a post procedure follow up call with the patient to assess their status after discharge and identify patient care needs of the patient. The RN is accountable to the Nurse Manager of the Cardiology Division. The RN Scheduler coordinates care for patients undergoing elective cardioversion procedures with/without Transesophageal Echo (TEE). The RN works collaboratively with the Cardiologist to ensure anticoagulation needs are met prior to procedure and coordinates Anesthesia support as needed for the procedure. The RN will complete all mandatory and annual competency training as well as maintaining a current BLS and ACLS. The RN will participate in performance improvement activities, in-services, and customer service programs at the unit level. The RN will assist the Structural Heart team to ensure patient care coordination and perform Cardiac stress tests 5 days a week.
