The Assistant Chief Nurse (ACN) for Surgery/Specialty Care, under the direct supervision of Chief Nurse, Surgery/Specialty Care, will carry out the functions and responsibilities within the Surgical/Specialty care team consisting of the Operating Room (OR), Prep/Recovery, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Gastroenterology/Endoscopy (GI), Interventional Radiology (IR), Cath Lab, and all surgical, cardiac, and GI, specialty clinic staff. The Assistant Chief Nurse (ACN) for Surgery/Specialty Care is responsible for improving and delivering patient care through collaborative strategies with the Associate Director Patient Care Services, Deputy Associate Director Patient Care Services, Chief Nurses, Service Chiefs and others at the OVAHCS. The ACN for Surgery/Specialty Care reports directly to and collaborates with the Chief Nurse (CN) for Surgery/Specialty Care and can act as the CN in his/her absence. Contributing to ideas and recommendations for clinical and administrative leadership and oversight for both clinical nursing practice and administration; contributes/promotes optimal standards in care delivery and assists with development of policies/procedures which incorporate current evidence -based practice; works with his/her peers to formulate strategic directions for Nursing Service; plans, implements, and lead activities to enhance customer service; will facilitate interdisciplinary teamwork to assure optimal quality in care delivery processes, promote productivity/efficiency, monitor clinical outcomes, work to enhance patient satisfaction levels, and will be responsible and accountable for continuous performance improvement. The ACN prepares recurring professional reports and coordinates responses to internal/external inquires in collaboration with the Chief Nurse, Surgical/Specialty Care. The incumbent actively participates on various committees for nursing, facility- wide and/or VISN that are outcome driven. Additionally, this ACN will incorporate performance improvement and staffing effectiveness data to develop effective and efficient care delivery models and manage assigned budgets/space/equipment requirements. This ACN will serve as the direct supervisor of 9 Nurse Managers/Assistant Nurse Managers and will be second line supervisor to approximately 255 nurses assigned to the service. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with workday/hours flexibility required as administrative and/or clinical demands require.
