The Staff Nurse Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable clinically and administratively to the Nurse Manager OR. The Chief Nurse Executive will serve as a Joint Reviewer on the Staff Nurse Proficiency. The Nurse demonstrates expert knowledge of aseptic technique, anatomy and physiology and varied surgical procedures and makes clinical decisions about patient care and treatment for the OR. The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) He/she works effectively with others to initiate and lead interdisciplinary groups, and establishes relationships with professional and/or other health related groups within the community. Below are a list of some of the duties but not all of them: Evaluates and documents nursing care delivered to the surgical patient and revises plan o f care as necessary based on continued assessment during intraoperative phase according to peri-operative standards. Evaluates the patients response to nursing interventions and modifies the peri-operative nursing care plan to achieve the desired outcome. Functions competently as circulating/ scrub nurse, and Surgical clinic Identifies potential problems and seeks resolution to prevent unfavorable outcomes to the surgical patient during surgical intervention. He/she uses creative approach to enhance quality of patient care and productivity or providers. He/she systematically evaluates current clinical practice, initiates changes in clinical practice based on current concepts and findings from research and/or studies. He/she acts as consultant in clinical practice hospital wide. The RN directs the delivery of nursing care provided by Ancillary Staff and Students. The staff nurse is responsible for management of Unit when assuming the role of Charge Nurse. He/she is accountable clinically for ensuring that nursing care complies to established standards of clinical practice. Competency will be initially validated during the orientation period and annually thereafter. Validation may be achieved by observation of performance, written reports of performance or verbal feedback to the Nurse Manager.
