The incumbent practices as an RN within Patient Care Services for the inpatient Medical/Surgical Unit for VA Montana Health Care System at Fort Harrison, MT. The incumbent supports the mission and vision of the Health Care System. This is an open continuous announcement. We accept applications for this occupation on an ongoing basis; qualified applicants will be considered as vacancies become available. Applications will remain on file for one year from the date the application was signed. Using the Care Partnership Model of Care, the nurse collaborates with nursing staff, physicians, and other interdisciplinary team members responsible for patient care as assigned and may act as the designated Charge Nurse on the unit. The nurse provides care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling; provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being; and executing medical regimens including administering medications and treatments. This area serves critically ill adult and elderly Veterans with pre and post-surgical care needs and acute and chronic medical conditions that may include a psychiatric component. Experience and/or training in geropsychiatric care, mental health, substance abuse, orthopedics, and general surgery is preferred as this unit provides care to both medical and surgical patients. The nurse's primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community (ANA Code of Ethics tor Nurses). The nurse may be assigned to the Charge Nurse role for the unit after completing training and demonstrating competence. In this role, the nurse is responsible for facilitating the basic daily functions of the unit according to facility and policy and procedure. The nurse will cross-train to other inpatient units to provide relief coverage after orientation has been completed for the unit. The RN will complete other duties as assigned and may cross cover other areas once competency is established.
