Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385 bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma facility with an innovative, patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department.
Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.
Under the supervision of the Sterile Prep Coordinator, the Sterile Prep technician is responsible for the reprocessing of instrumentation of Surgery, Womanï¿½s services, Emergency Department and all other areas utilizing sterile invasive technology.
The Sterile Prep staff is charged with the responsibility of knowing the theory and functions of the sterilization process assuring quality controls are maintained.
The technician must be familiar with all forms of disinfection & sterilization I.e. steam, steris, & Sterrad.
Sterile Prep is a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation.

Department Specific Duties:
Orients and trains new employees as appropriate
Works closely with OR staff to insure adequate and appropriate instrumentation for surgical procedures
Performs daily autoclave quality checks
Disassembles, cleans, and decontaminates medical instruments, supplies, and equipment using approved disinfectants.
Inspects instruments for damage
Replaces any missing or broken instruments to complete trays
Reassembles trays according to inventory lists for each tray
Operates decontamination machinery and sterilization machinery
Wraps and sterilizes instruments and trays
Follow designated procedures for operation of sterilization equipment
Logs all instruments and trays prior to sterilization
Verifies sterilization process parameters are met for all loads
Runs quality tests on required equipment.
High School Diploma or GED
Certifications &/or experience.
Six months experience in a hospital setting as an instrument tech, or as a Surgical Instrument Tech.
One year experience in a hospital setting, with knowledge of surgical instrumentation, all forms of the sterilization process and CCST Preferred.
