Provides individual and group treatment services to patients to teach new leisure skills, improve on existing skills and increase understanding of activities role in their recovery. Provides patients with opportunities to express self utilizing non-verbal modalities including art, music and movement. Completes recreational assessment within 72 hours of admission. May be needed to work beyond the regular tour of duty or in another patient care unit as assigned by department head or nursing manager. Conducts group with adult and geriatric patient population.
Position Qualification: (Training, Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities)
B.S in recreational, educational or related allied therapy field.
Two years experience in an acute behavioral setting
Effective oral and written communication skills in the English language.
Visual and hearing senses must be adequate to detect changes in human psychology and physiological condition.
Able to perfomr effectvely in a past paced, stressful environment.
Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist/Certified Music Therapist, Registered Art Therapist.
American Heart Association BLS required.
Crisis Prevention Institute certification.
