GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Sr. Director of Perioperative Services and the OR Nurse Manager
according to established policies and procedures, the perioperative RN plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care provided to patients of all ages, whose protective reflexes or self care abilities are potentially compromised during surgical or other invasive procedures. The perioperative RN possesses clinical knowledge, judgment, and critical thinking skills based upon scientific principles to address the patientâ��s physical, psychological, and spiritual needs.
The perioperative RN ensures a safe environment for patients and staff, and serves as a resource to healthcare team members. The perioperative RN collaborates and consults with management, Clinical Coordinators, physicians, educator, staff nurses, and technical staff, to ensure patient and family- centered care Perioperative Nursing care. Ensures that the quality and safe delivery of care to patients from neonates through geriatric patients. Although the perioperative RN works collaboratively with professional and technical healthcare providers, the perioperative nurse is accountable for patient outcomes resulting from the nursing care provided during the surgical or invasive procedure.
The goal of Perioperative nursing practice is to assist the patients, families, and significant others to achieve a level of wellness equal to or greater than which they had prior to the surgical or invasive procedure.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
â�¢Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of an Associate's Degree in nursing
â�¢Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
â�¢Three years of related nursing experience preferred
â�¢Certification in Operating Room Nursing (CNOR) preferred
