The Nurse Manager of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit has 24-hour responsibility for patient care provided through programs and disciplines and is responsible for coordinating all patient care activities in the area of clinical and human resources. They promote shared decision making and professional autonomy to ensure efficient, effective, safe, and compassionate care. The candidate has good knowledge of fiscal resources and direct care, sensitive to performance improvement and resource utilization. Additional accountabilities including the education of staff, participation in marketing activities, and the ongoing updating of systems to respond to the needs of rehabilitation’s referral sources and outcome management. All activities related to Caregiver selection; performance and evaluation are the primary responsibility of the manager, including Rehabilitation Nursing, support staff, discharge planning, and PSS team.
Creates a learning environment that is open and respectful and encourages the sharing of expertise to promote the benefits of health outcomes.
Ensure the sharing and demonstration of evidence-based practice through active discussions, policies and procedures and standards of practice.
Ensures compliance with Hospital, State, Federal and all other regulatory agencies in reference to patient care activities and physical environment.
Utilizes voice of the Stakeholders, objective measurement outcomes, and National benchmarks to drive continuous performance improvement.
Develop, implement, monitor and be accountable for the budget within the areas of defined responsibility.
Ensures two-way communication of information with Team Members and Stakeholders through staff meetings, task force meetings, Case Conferences, and Family Meetings, etc.
Recruits, selects, and retains qualified Caregivers.
Ensures appropriate orientation, education, credentialing, and continued professional development of Caregivers.
Monitors Caregiver performance, providing coaching, recognition, counselling and avenues for improvement as needed.
Empowers Caregivers by delegating clear responsibility, accountability and authority to meet mutually agreed upon expectations.
Communicate the shared mission, vision and values of the organization to all Rehabilitation Caregivers and Rehab Stakeholders.
Assists with the assessment of the impact of, and plan strategies to address, such issues as:· (1) Ethnic, cultural and diversity changes in the population (2) Political and social influences (3) Financial and economic issues (4) The aging of society and demographic trends and (5) Ethical issues related to health.
Promotes community advocacy and education through support groups, active memberships to professional organizations, and Health System promotional activities.
Assumes responsibility for staffing and scheduling Caregivers to ensure appropriate needs for patient care are met.
Establish strategic goals within department consistent with the direction of Sparrow Health System.
Current Michigan Nursing License
Minimum five years of managerial experience or leadership experience
Bachelor's degree in Nursing
Clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary to manage nursing unit
Preferred graduate of an accredited Masters of Science in Nursing Program
