Arbour Hospital is a 136-bed private psychiatric facility located in Bostonâ€™s Jamaica Plain neighborhood. The hospital specializes in adult mental health treatment, adolescent and dual diagnosis services. Other services include partial hospitalization programs (PHP) and outpatient treatment.
The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for day to day operations on their unit during their shift. They function on the unit as the Charge Nurse during their shifts, typically Monday-Friday 7-3:30 p.m., but may work other shifts as required by the Nurse Manager. Their chief responsibilities including ensuring day to day clinical operations occur as expected. Support Unit Manager with accomplishing unit goals during their shifts.
Essential Functions: Teamwork/Leadership
Ensures the assignment sheet is completed (all 1:1â€™s are assigned at the start of the shift)
Responsibility and accountability for all aspects of operations during their shift.
Oversees staff working on their unit during their shift.
Functions as a highly visible role model, demonstrating quality expertise and professional behaviors which support professional development of staff and the strategic goals of Arbour Hospital.
Identifies and develops strategies to improve the overall knowledge base and professionalism of staff.
Directs, mentors, and supports all level of staff.
Participates in the development of performance improvement and patient safety initiatives
â€œHuddlesâ€� all staff to address the state of the unit and communicates any significant concerns
Demonstrates positive attitude and service ethic
Manages successfully conflict and problem solving
Welcomes floating staff to the unit and ensures they have a quick orientation
Collaborates with physicians, social work and all other interdisciplinary staff
Shows pride and motivation in practice
Mentors and trains new staff as required or requested by Nurse Manager
Keeps the NM and supervisor (in NM absence ) informed regarding critical incidents, patient changes, and overall unit operations
Checks in with MHAâ€™s and other team members to ensure teams are supported.
Provides feedback as needed to team members
Holds staff accountable for following protocols/policies
Ensures all staff attend shift report.
Serves as a clinical resource
Ensures the group schedule occurs as scheduled
Ensures all documentation is completed (including any restraint paperwork, incident reporting)
Conducts rounds at the beginning and end of the shift
Ensures check sheets and 1:1 documents are fully completed
Engages in quality improvement activities
Ensures code cart and supplies in treatment room are in place
Awareness of census and vacancies on the unit for potential admissions
Identifies staffing/skill mix and utilizes accordingly for assignments
Updates white board with information
Reviews charts to ensure 24 hour nursing notes
Follows restraints or crisis situations and facilitates debriefings
Ensures treatment plan is completed every 48 hours and is complete
