The House Supervisor (HS) functions under the direction and supervision of the Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) and assumes responsibility for the Nursing Department. The HS in collaboration with the CCO and leadership team assists to implement, interpret and assure compliance with policies and procedures including regulatory and accreditation standards. The HS directly supervises the nurses. The HS is responsible for implementing hospital goals and objectives based on budget parameters. The HS reinforces the mission and vision of the hospital in all interactions.
Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of patient care.
Makes daily rounds in area of responsibility.
Assess complex patient situations at the staff nurses request.
Responds to emergency situations within 5 minutes.
Monitors the efficiency and effectiveness of patient care assignments on each quad daily.
Coordinates Staffing. Assesses staffing patterns and projects needs for oncoming shifts daily. Assigns staff according to patient needs and nurses skills. Recruits staff as needed and documents schedule changes accurately in the computer and on a daily basis. Documents variances in staffing after each shift.
Support the staff nurse with procedures requiring expertise. Start difficult IV's at the staff nurse request. Assist the staff nurse with unfamiliar procedures. Assist the staff nurse with unfamiliar equipment.
Participate in organizational activities.
Assess educational needs of the nursing staff. Provide feedback to educational resources or managers of identified needs. Make resource material available to staff. Teach or assist in providing in-services or competency evaluations annually.
Demonstrate effective and accurate verbal and written communication. Give and receive a thorough verbal or written report about each shift to the oncoming responsible supervisory staff. Assess the need and facilitate the proper use of incident and problem reports within 24 hours of incident. Route specific information to appropriate person
Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care. Demonstrates knowledge of special needs and behaviors of the rehab patient. Completes employee performance audits at the CCO's request. Reviews the charts of patients. Conducts discussions with nurse of patients test and procedures to encourage awareness of clinical status. Provides direction to nursing staff regarding call the physician after hours. Evaluates and verifies as necessary the accuracy of nurse's assessment skills. Demonstrates ability to provide care based upon physical, psycho/social, cultural, safety and other age related factors. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs.
Represents Administration in their absence. Appropriately notify AOC as needed. Clearly communicate pertinent information to administrator on call. Directs media inquiries to the appropriate person. Handle death procedure appropriately, including notification of funeral home as soon as patient is pronounced 100% of the time. Provide managerial support to other departments as needed.
Responsible for providing professional working conditions for employees.
Graduate of accredited registered nurse program with current licensure in the state. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support required.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 18 months of hire and keep current.
Charge Nurse, Nursing Management or Leadership preferred.
Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, evaluate and direct activities of clinical personnel; effective oral and written communication skills, in English with additional languages preferred; proficiency in basic computer skills required.
