The Ridge Behavioral Health System is seeking a dynamic and talented Nurse Supervisor. Located in Lexington, KY, the heart of the Bluegrass, The Ridge Behavioral Health System offers a healing environment that is reassuring to a patients' sense of security and confidentiality. Dedicated to excellence, The Ridge Behavioral Health System is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, as a licensed, 110-bed hospital, providing psychiatric (mental health) and chemical dependency (drug & alcohol rehabilitation) services to children, adolescents and adults. Inpatient care is provided on a 24-hour basis, seven days a week. Outpatient and partial hospitalization services are provided on a six-day per week basis, days and evenings. Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, coordinates and supervises personnel providing care to the patients and all components of the treatment program. Performs supportive and performance improvement duties as identified by CNO.
Position Specific Competencies:
Organizes, directs and controls staffing and daily assignments, based on acuity reports and safe and efficient use of resources.
Assigns duties based on staff competency and patient acuity.
Supervises nursing staff to ensure assigned duties are complete.
Ensures staff members have necessary resources to provide quality care.
Sets unit staffing for upcoming shifts.
Completes "shift staffing report" accurately and completely.
Manages staffing in accordance to staffing plan and patient safety.
Assists with coverage for changes in acuity and alteration in staffing patterns.
Attends and participates in Nursing Leadership, Performance Improvement and other hospital meetings and committees as needed.
Participates in developing and maintaining unit, departmental and hospital standards of excellence through problem solving, disciplinary action, committee involvement and self-directed growth and development.
Ensures appropriate employee accident and injury reporting is completed for primary shift events.
Performs supportive functions to patient care as assigned (i.e. lab, IV, wound, falls, clothing donations, S/R, etc.)
Assists in the evaluation, monitoring and development of quality patient care activity schedules.
Identifies Process Improvements to current methods and takes the lead in implementing these rounds with purpose on units several times per shift reviews and signs supervisor rounds asks questions of staff and is observant of all areas.
Is a positive influence on the staff and patient milieu by exhibiting leadership skills including positive problem-solving, excellent use of milieu management and verbal de-escalation skills. Is able to assess a situation quickly and accurately and create an action plan for resolution.
Completes, receives and reviews for accuracy Employee Accident Reports and injury forms to ensure completion including forwarding to Human Resources Department.
Determines, with employee input, level of care needed post-accident or injury.
Completes, receives and reviews for accuracy Healthcare Peer Review forms including forwarding to facility Risk Manager.
Perform nursing care monitors including patient observations, door lock checks, bedroom laser curtains, crash cart, and infection control.
Is receptive to direction and feedback from Nurse Managers and CNO. Has a high visibility on units and to staff.
Communicates performance expectations to staff.
Communicates clearly, directly, and respectfully with staff.
Promptly communicates with Nurse Manager, CNO and HR Director regarding employee problems.
Reinforces positive work performance.
Is available to staff for questions regarding departmental procedures and policies.
Identifies training needs of nursing staff to Nurse Manager and CNO.
Assumes responsibility for facility operations when department heads are not present.
Responds openly and supportively to changes.
Maintains narcotic count sheet daily.
Performs nurse to nurse assessments to determine medical need. Completes Assessment forms for inquiry when the Assessment Office is busy.
Performs Performance Improvement Audits as assigned by CNO.
Follows proper NCI de-escalation techniques when handling crisis situations.
Provides appropriate crisis intervention as necessary by anticipating and responding quickly to escalating behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques to diffuse the situation, correctly prioritizing safety concerns.
Uses appropriate counseling skills by de-escalating aggression, using active listening skills, using appropriate tone and volume of voice, providing a high frequency and variety of positive reinforcements, maintaining appropriate boundaries, and promoting a positive peer culture.
Completes clinical competency supervision forms.
Demonstrates proper procedures for therapeutic holds and seclusions.
Enforces that all contraband is properly removed and disposed of according to policy.
