Responsibilities
The primary task of this position is to gather data on all CKRI inpatient rehabilitation program patients during the initial 3 day evaluation period and then then to gather data again at the time of discharge per CMS required Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI). The abstracted data elements per IRF_PAI manual are then submitted to an approved vendor and Medicare and Medicaid patient’s data is then submitted to CMS which is used to represent billing compliance standards such as 60% rule. Abstracted data is used for tracking of prospective and outcome measures for CKRI inpatient programs. The PPS specialist train all inpatient rehabilitation staff (nurses and therapists) on the Functional Independence Measurement (FIM) tool. This role reviews clinical documentation and provides feedback to staff to assure compliance with CMS regulations.
Working knowledge involving rehabilitation patient population, tools used to assess functional status. Able to communicate any questions or inconsistences with multiple departments and levels of staff. Working knowledge of ability to obtain and keep updated on CMS Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility-Patient Assessment Instrument tool. Ability to navigate the EMR.
